How the 0.5% Charge Works
Safaricom deducts 0.5% of the amount paid from the business's M-PESA balance, up to a maximum of KES 200 per transaction. For any amount above KES 40,000, the charge stays fixed at KES 200 since 0.5% would otherwise exceed the cap.
What the Business Actually Receives
The customer's till payment always reflects the full amount paid — the 0.5% cost is deducted from what the business receives, not added on top for the customer. This calculator shows both the cost and the resulting balance the business is credited.
