How Is the Water Charge Calculated?
NCWSC bills domestic water progressively across six consumption bands, so each cubic metre is charged at the rate for its own band rather than one flat rate for your whole bill. The first 1–6 m³ costs KES 68/m³, the next 7–20 m³ costs KES 85/m³, 21–50 m³ costs KES 91/m³, 51–100 m³ costs KES 101/m³, 101–300 m³ costs KES 109/m³, and anything above 300 m³ costs KES 117/m³.
How Is the Sewerage Charge Calculated?
Sewerage is billed on 75% of your metered water volume — not on the money value of your water charge — using its own separate per-cubic-metre tariff table (KES 58 to KES 93/m³ across the same six bands). A household using 15 m³ of water is billed sewerage on 11.25 m³, not on 75% of the water charge in shillings, which is why the sewerage line doesn't work out to exactly half the water line.

Why Did My Water Bill Increase in 2026?
WASREB approved a new NCWSC tariff structure for the 2025/2026 to 2028/2029 financial years in a gazette notice published 27 February 2026, raising both the water bands and the sewerage charge from 50% to 75% of volume. The regulator cited the need for NCWSC to fund network investment and improve service delivery as the reason for the increase, and the approval allows a further annual inflation adjustment from July 2027.

Is Nairobi Water sewerage 50% or 75% of the water bill?
Sewerage is 75% of your metered water volume, not 75% (or 50%) of the water charge in shillings. It's billed separately on that 75% volume using its own tariff table, which is why it usually works out to somewhat less than 75% of the water line in KES.
