Calculate M-Shwari loan repayment, savings interest (regular or Lock Savings), and late loan repayment charges.

M-Shwari is a savings and loan product run jointly by Safaricom and NCBA, accessed through the M-PESA menu. This calculator covers all three things people usually need to work out: what a loan actually costs, how much interest savings will earn, and what a late loan repayment adds up to.

M-Shwari Loans

An M-Shwari loan charges a one-time 7.5% facilitation fee plus 1.5% excise duty on the facilitation fee, over a 30-day term — there is no daily interest. Borrow KES 1,000 and you repay KES 1,000 plus roughly KES 76 in fees.

M-Shwari Savings

Regular M-Shwari savings earn a tiered annual interest rate depending on your balance — larger balances earn a higher rate, paid quarterly. Lock Savings earns a flat 6.3% per year in exchange for locking your funds for a fixed number of months.

Late Repayment

If a loan is not repaid within 30 days, a further 7.5% late fee is added for every additional 30-day period it remains outstanding, compounding on the growing balance. Late loans may also be reported to credit reference bureaus.

What is the M-Shwari loan fee?

M-Shwari charges a one-time 7.5% facilitation fee plus 1.5% excise duty on that fee, over a 30-day term — there is no daily interest. A 30-day loan of KES 1,000 costs about KES 76 in total fees.
