Calculate court filing fees in Kenya for civil claims based on the amount in dispute, per the Civil Procedure (Fees) Rules.

How Filing Fees Are Set

Court filing fees for civil suits in Kenya are set by the Civil Procedure (Fees) Rules and scale with the value of the claim stated in the plaint, not with how complex the case is. A higher claim amount pushes the case into a higher fee band, up to a flat maximum for claims above KES 1 million.

What This Covers

This calculator estimates the fee for filing the original plaint in a civil claim. It does not include fees for interlocutory applications, appeals, or execution of judgment, which are charged separately under the same Rules, nor does it cover criminal, family, or land matters, which follow different fee schedules.

How much does it cost to file a civil case in Kenya?

Court filing fees for civil suits in Kenya scale with the claim amount under the Civil Procedure (Fees) Rules — from KES 1,500 for claims up to KES 50,000 to a flat KES 15,000 for claims above KES 1 million.

Does this fee cover the whole court case?

No, this covers only the fee for filing the original plaint. Interlocutory applications, appeals, and execution proceedings attract separate fees under the same Rules.
